Bushfire Protection in the Australian Summer
Bushfire preparation
Thanks to prevalent green drought, much of Tasmania is vulnerable to wildfires, due to dry soil and weak vegetation, despite the grassy and lush appearance of much of the state.
It is crucial in any rural setting to ensure that you are doing the most you can to protect yourself from bushfire. You can do this by ensuring that you have a bushfire action plan, as well as proper water storage for fire fighting purposes.
So as to ensure your water tank can be used for the purposes of both household or property water storage, and fire protection, Pioneer Water Tanks offers the option of a fire reserve.
Outperforming all comers in bushfire conditions
The CSIRO carried out bushfire simulation tests on water tanks in partnership with the Bushfire and National Hazards CRC, and the results showed that a steel Pioneer Water Tank performed better than the competition.
Importantly, in contrast to the other tanks-- which either melted or split - the Pioneer Water Tank continued to hold water even after a fire front, which could prove critical to firefighting efforts.
If your water tank has been subjected to fire, it is important to ensure that you get your water tested as soon as possible to ensure that it is safe for food preparation or drinking. The water would, however, still be suitable for purposes such as watering gardens or lawns.
An Ongoing Battle with the Elements
The Elizabeth Town climate
Deloraine, like most Tasmanian towns, has a temperate and wet climate.
Elizabeth Town averages over 800mm of rainfall annually, with the majority of this rainfall between the months of April and October.
The area is largely a farming district. Significant agricultural enterprises include organic dairy producer Elgaar Farm, berry producer Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm and the Ashgrove Cheese Farm.
Rainwater run-off and flooding
In areas across rural Australia, rainfall is often a welcome sight, and Tasmania is certainly no different.
When steady rainfall accumulates, this can result in flooding and storm water run off, which can cause damage to property and the environment, particularly in areas where man made facilities such as roads and footpaths cause the water to be unable to soak in to the soil.
The Pioneer Water Tanks Difference
Aqualiner Fresh® antimicrobial water tank liner
The Aqualiner Fresh ® water tank liner is a Pioneer Water Tanks exclusive, the only antimicrobial tank liner available on the market today, and is proven to prevent the growth of algae and bacteria in your water tank.
The natural antimicrobial properties of silver and Sanitized ® technology are woven into the Aqualiner Fresh ® water tank liner.
The most scientifically advanced, cleanest and toughest liner available on the market, this is an industry leading product, made up of five distinct layers to protect and store your water.
Pioneer V-Lock® tank wall profile
The Pioneer V-Lock ® tank wall profile, also exclusive to Pioneer Water Tanks, has been developed with the sole purpose of water storage.
This V-Lock panel profile is designed not only for toughness and durability of the tank wall itself by engineering the sheets to the ideal thickness for each panel, but also to protect the tank liner, preventing stretching and wear as the tank fills and empties.
The design was deemed so good, in terms of structural integrity and aesthetic appeal, it won an Australian Design Award.
