Hadspen Water Tanks
Hadspen is a town on the South Esk River in the north of Tasmania, 10km north west of Perth, most of the town's buildings are residential, and relatively recent. The town's population of just over 2000 has grown rapidly from only a few hundred in the 1960s, and there are development plans that call for its doubling.
For over thirty years, Pioneer Water Tanks have been a premier Hadspen water tank manufacturer and supplier.
Pioneer Water Tank owners in Hadspen rest easy in the knowledge they have the support of Australia's primary big tank supplier.
Regardless of the outside view that Tasmania is a lush and rainy state all over, people of Tasmania know better, and are mindful of their water storage needs.

Bushfire Protection in the Australian Summer
Bushfire preparation
Despite being a magnificent and green part of the country, many parts of Tasmania are plagued by green drought, which means in the hot, dry summer months, vegetation is dry and vulnerable to wildfires.
An important way to prepare for the drier summer months is to ensure that you not only have a bushfire action plan, but also that you have sufficient water storage to help you and emergency services protect against the threat of wildfires.
A steel water tank can be used as both fire protection and water storage for the home, and Pioneer also offers a fire reserve option for your water tank if required.
Outperforming all comers in bushfire conditions
The CSIRO carried out bushfire simulation tests on water tanks in partnership with the Bushfire and National Hazards CRC, and the results showed that a steel Pioneer Water Tank performed better than the competition.
All other tanks tested either melted or split, causing them to lose precious water, however the Pioneer Water Tank continued to hold water after being exposed to the full 30 minute fire front, which could prove crucial to fire fighting efforts.
After a fire front has gone by, the water in your tank can still be used for non-consumptive applications, like watering your gardens, however, it is highly recommended to get your water tested as soon as possible to make sure your water is safe before using it for food preparation or drinking.
An Ongoing Battle with the Elements
The Hadspen climate
Hadspen is home to a temperate, oceanic climate, with long warm summer days, and cool short winter days.
Hadspen averages 627.9mm of rainfall annually, and whilst the majority of this falls in the winter months, the town sees rainfall year round.
The town is set in a rural landscape, with valleys and river flood plains. Whilst there have been pastoralists take advantage of these conditions, Hadspen primarily functions as a dormitory town for Launceston.
Rainwater run-off and flooding
In areas across rural Australia, rainfall is often a welcome sight, and Tasmania is certainly no different.
When consistent rainfall builds up, this can result in flooding and storm water run off, which can cause damage to property and the environment, particularly in areas where man made facilities such as roads and footpaths cause the water to be unable to soak in to the soil.
If a 24 hour time period saw a 100mm deposit of rainfall on Hadspen, it would only entail 100 homes with fitted water tanks and sufficient guttering to prevent 2 million litres of water from entering the ecosystem.
The Pioneer Water Tanks Difference
Aqualiner Fresh® antimicrobial water tank liner

The natural antimicrobial properties of silver and Sanitized ® technology are woven into the Aqualiner Fresh ® water tank liner.
This is an industry leading product, comprised of five engineered layers, coming together to produce the most scientifically advanced, cleanest and strongest water tank liner available today.
Pioneer V-Lock® tank wall profile
