Legana Water Tanks

Pioneer Water Tanks have been the best Legana water tank supplier and manufacturer for more than thirty years.

The backing and history of Australia's number one big tank company, means that customers in Legana can be satisfied with their water storage solutions.

Although much of the mainland hold the belief that Tasmania is a grassy land of abundant rains, people in Tasmania know better, and are mindful of their water storage needs.

The name "Legana" is based on the Palawa word for "fresh water" since it is at the point where the Tamar River becomes fresh water. There is currently a homestead called "Freshwater" which was adjacent to a private jetty where early settlers traded with the local natives. This homestead, in Nobelius Drive, now operates as a Bed and Breakfast accommodation house.

Bushfire Protection in the Australian Summer

Bushfire preparation

Despite being a beautiful and green part of the country, many parts of Tasmania are affected by green drought, which means in the hot, dry summer months, plant life is dry and vulnerable to wildfires.

It is crucial in any rural setting to ensure that you are doing the best you can to protect yourself from bushfire. You can do this by making sure that you have a bushfire action plan, as well as sufficient water storage for fire fighting purposes.

A steel water tank can be used as both fire protection and water storage for the home, and Pioneer also offers a fire reserve option for your water tank if needed.

Outperforming all comers in bushfire conditions

When the Bushfire and National Hazards CRC along with the CSIRO carried out bushfire simulations on a variety of water tanks, a steel Pioneer Water Tank held up best.

After thirty minutes of submersion in flame, the Pioneer Water Tank continued to store water, a crucial feature for firefighting efforts, while the other tanks tested either melted or split, causing their water to be partially or fully lost.

If your water tank has been subjected to fire, it is important to ensure that you get your water tested as soon as possible to ensure that it is safe for food preparation or drinking. The water would, however, still be suitable for purposes such as watering gardens or lawns.

An Ongoing Battle with the Elements

The Legana climate

Legana is located in a temperate, oceanic climate region, with warm summer days, and cool winters.

Hadspen averages 680.3mm of rainfall annually, and whilst the majority of this falls in the winter months, the town sees rainfall year round.

Legana was originally a rural town made up of dairy farms, apple orchards, and cattle grazing, thanks to fertile soil and favourable conditions in the area.

Rainwater run-off and flooding

In areas across rural Australia, rainfall is often a welcome sight, and Tasmania is certainly no different.

However; stormwater run off caused by heavy rainfall, particularly in areas with roads and footpaths, can lead to wide-spread flooding and damage by water that can't escape into the ecosystem.

If a 24 hour period saw a 100mm deposit of rainfall on Legana, it would only require 100 homes with fitted water tanks and adequate guttering to prevent 2 million litres of water from entering the ecosystem.

The Pioneer Water Tanks Difference

Aqualiner Fresh® antimicrobial water tank liner

The Aqualiner Fresh ® water tank liner is a Pioneer Water Tanks exclusive, the one and only antimicrobial tank liner available on the market today, and is proven to prevent the growth of algae and bacteria in your water tank.

The Aqualiner Fresh ® utilises Sanitized ® technology, with the antibacterial properties of silver, interwoven into the water tank liner.

This industry leading water tank liner is made up of five layers that make up the strongest, cleanest and most scientifically advanced water tank liner on the market.

Pioneer V-Lock® tank wall profile

Developed for durability and for the sole purpose of water storage, the Pioneer V-Lock ® tank wall profile is also a Pioneer Water Tanks exclusive.

This V-Lock panel profile is designed not only for strength and durability of the tank wall itself by engineering the sheets to the ideal thickness for each panel, but also to protect the tank liner, preventing stretching and wear as the tank fills and empties.

Don't just take our word for it, the design is so sound, it won an Australian Design Award for its strength and visual appeal.
