Bushfire Protection in the Australian Summer
Bushfire preparation
Whilst most of Tasmania appears verdant and green, much like other parts of the country, many regions in Tasmania are afflicted by green drought, which leaves much of the plant life prone to wildfires in the hot summer months.
As well as having a bushfire action plan, an important way to prepare for the dry summer months is to ensure that you have sufficient water storage to help protect you from the threat of fire, and a Pioneer Water Tank helps provide that protection.
A steel water tank can be used as both fire protection and water storage for the home, and Pioneer also offers a fire reserve option for your water tank if required.
Outperforming all comers in bushfire conditions
The CSIRO carried out bushfire simulation tests on water tanks in partnership with the Bushfire and National Hazards CRC, and the results showed that a steel Pioneer Water Tank performed better than the competition.
After thirty minutes of submersion in flame, the Pioneer Water Tank continued to store water, a vital feature for firefighting efforts, while the other tanks tested either melted or split, causing their water to be partially or fully lost.
If your water tank has been subjected to fire, it is essential to ensure that you get your water tested as soon as possible to ensure that it is safe for food preparation or drinking. The water would, however, still be suitable for purposes such as watering gardens or lawns.
An Ongoing Battle with the Elements
The Margate climate
Margate is home to a temperate oceanic climate, with mild to warm summers, and cool winters.
The annual average rainfall in Margate is 609.9mm, with the town experiencing rainfall year round.
Margate was once primarily an apple growing town, but now is more of a service centre for the surrounding rural area.
Rainwater run-off and flooding
In areas across Australia, especially rural and regional areas effected by drought, rainfall is usually a very welcome sight, and Tasmania is no outlier in this fact.
However; storms causing heavy rainfall in a short time period can trigger storm water runoff, especially in areas with roads and footpaths preventing the water from soaking into the ground.
If a 24 hour period saw a 100mm deposit of rainfall on Margate, it would only require 100 homes with fitted water tanks and appropriate guttering to keep 2 million litres of water from entering the ecosystem.
The Pioneer Water Tanks Difference
Aqualiner Fresh® antimicrobial water tank liner
A Pioneer Water Tanks exclusive, the Aqualiner Fresh ® water tank liner is the only antimicrobial water tank liner on the market, proven to prevent the growth of algae and bacteria in your water tank.
The Aqualiner Fresh ® utilises Sanitized ® technology, with the antibacterial properties of silver, interwoven into the water tank liner.
The most technologically advanced, cleanest and strongest liner available on the market, this is an industry leading product, comprised of five distinct layers to protect and store your water.
Pioneer V-Lock® tank wall profile
The Pioneer V-Lock ® tank wall profile has been engineered for durability, and created with the sole purpose of water storage in mind.
This V-Lock panel profile is designed not only for strength and durability of the tank wall itself by engineering the sheets to the ideal thickness for each panel, but also to protect the tank liner, preventing stretching and wear as the tank fills and empties.
It's a design so good, it won an Australian Design Award for the unrivalled strength and internal support, together with its aesthetically pleasing appearance.
