Scottsdale Water Tanks
Scottsdale is a town in the north-east of Tasmania, Australia. It lies on the Tasman Highway, around 63 kilometres from Launceston, and 22 km from the coastal holiday town of Bridport.
Pioneer Water Tanks have been a leading Scottsdale water tank supplier and manufacturer for more than thirty years.
People of Scottsdale know that they can rest assured, knowing they have the backing and support of Australia's number one big tank company.
Tasmania is often seen from the outside as a rainy green sanctuary all over, however, residents know better, and have their water supply requirements in mind.

Bushfire Protection in the Australian Summer
Bushfire preparation
Despite being a magnificent and green part of the country, many parts of Tasmania are plagued by green drought, which means in the hot, dry summer months, plant life is dry and susceptible to wildfires.
It is important in any rural setting to ensure that you are doing the best you can to protect yourself from bushfire. You can do this by ensuring that you have a bushfire action plan, as well as sufficient water storage for fire fighting purposes.
A steel water tank can be used as both fire protection and water storage for the home, and Pioneer also offers a fire reserve option for your water tank if needed.
Outperforming all comers in bushfire conditions
When the Bushfire and National Hazards CRC together with the CSIRO performed bushfire simulations on a selection of water tanks, a steel Pioneer Water Tank held up best.
All other tanks tested either melted or split, causing them to lose valuable water, however the Pioneer Water Tank continued to hold water after being exposed to the full 30 minute fire front, which could prove critical to fire fighting efforts.
If your water tank has been subjected to fire, it is important to ensure that you get your water tested as soon as possible to make sure that it is safe for food preparation or drinking. The water would, however, still be suited for purposes such as watering gardens or lawns.
An Ongoing Battle with the Elements
The Scottsdale climate
Scottsdale has a mild climate with warm summers and cool, wet winters. The average annual rainfall is 987.1 mm and the vast majority of that falls in the winter months. This leads to beautiful green surrounds, contrasting the blue mountains.
This plentiful rainfall and warm summers have led to potato farming, dairy farming, pine plantations, poppy cultivation and mining are all being grown in the area. Hops were previously an important crop, however large hop farms have over the last few years been sold or turned into dairy farms and eucalyptus and pine plantations.
Rainwater run-off and flooding
Rain is cherished in rural areas all across Australia, particularly those enduring drought conditions, and Tasmania is surely no different.
However; storms causing heavy rainfall in a short time period can result in storm water runoff, especially in areas with roads and footpaths preventing the water from soaking into the soil.
If a 24 hour period saw a 100mm deposit of rainfall on Scottsdale, it would only require 100 homes with fitted water tanks and adequate guttering to keep 2 million litres of water from entering the ecosystem.
