Sheffield Water Tanks
Sheffield is a town 23 kilometres inland from the city of Devonport on the north-west coast of Tasmania. Sheffield has long been the rural hub for the Mount Roland area. The Sheffield area is well known for its high quality butterfat production via dairy farming. The area is suitable for lamb and beef production.
Pioneer Water Tanks have been a premier Sheffield water tank supplier and manufacturer for more than thirty years.
Pioneer Water Tank owners in Sheffield rest easy in the knowledge they have the support of Australia's number one big tank supplier.
Regardless of the outside view that Tasmania is a green and rainy state all over, people of Tasmania know better, and are mindful of their water storage needs.

Bushfire Protection in the Australian Summer
Despite being a magnificent and green part of the country, many parts of Tasmania are affected by green drought, which means in the hot, dry summer months, plant life is dry and vulnerable to wildfires.
It is important in any rural setting to ensure that you are doing the best you can to protect yourself from bushfire. You can do this by making sure that you have a bushfire action plan, as well as proper water storage for fire fighting purposes.
Pioneer Water Tanks offers the option of a fire reserve in your tank, to ensure it can be used for both household water storage and fire protection.
Outperforming all comers in bushfire conditions
When the Bushfire and National Hazards CRC together with the CSIRO performed bushfire simulations on a range of water tanks, a steel Pioneer Water Tank stood up best.
After 30 minutes of submersion in flame, the Pioneer Water Tank continued to store water, a crucial feature for firefighting efforts, while the other tanks tested either melted or split, causing their water to be partially or fully lost.
After a fire front has gone by, the water in your tank can still be used for non-consumptive purposes, like watering your gardens, having said that, it is highly recommended to get your water tested as soon as possible to make sure your water is safe before using it for food preparation or drinking.
An Ongoing Battle with the Elements
The Sheffield climate
Sheffield has a mild temperate climate, with year round rainfall, and plentiful sunny days. This idyllic weather causes lush green landscapes.
The town averages over 1000mm of rainfall in the average year, with most of this rainfall coming in the winter months.
The weather in Sheffield leads to verdant turf, which has made it ideal for sheep and cattle farmers.
Rainwater run-off and flooding
Rain is welcome in rural areas all across Australia, particularly those suffering drought conditions, and Tasmania is surely no different.
However; stormwater run off brought on by heavy rainfall, especially in areas with roads and footpaths, can bring about wide-spread flooding and damage by water that can't escape into the ecosystem.
If 100mm of rain fell on Sheffield in just 24 hours, in order to prevent 2 million litres of rainfall from entering stormwater systems, it would require just 100 homes armed with rainwater tanks and appropriate guttering.
The Pioneer Water Tanks Difference
Aqualiner Fresh® antimicrobial water tank liner
A Pioneer Water Tanks exclusive, the Aqualiner Fresh ® water tank liner is the only antimicrobial water tank liner on the market, proven to prevent the growth of algae and bacteria in your water tank.
The natural antimicrobial properties of silver and Sanitized ® technology are woven into the Aqualiner Fresh ® water tank liner.
The most scientifically advanced, cleanest and toughest liner avalable on the market, this is an industry leading product, comprised of five distinct layers to protect and store your water.
Pioneer V-Lock® tank wall profile
The Pioneer V-Lock ® tank wall profile, also exclusive to Pioneer Water Tanks, has been designed with the sole purpose of water storage.
This V-Lock panel profile is designed not only for strength and durability of the tank wall itself by engineering the sheets to the ideal thickness for each panel, but also to protect the tank liner, preventing stretching and wear as the tank fills and empties.
It's an arrangement so good, it won an Australian Design Award for the unrivalled strength and internal support, along with its aesthetically pleasing appearance.
Australian made water tanks - Tasmanian local service
Made up of more than 50 local water tank dealers across the country, Pioneer's Dealer Direct Network means that we can provide truly local service to all Australians.
In Tasmania, we are proud to be partnered with Statewide Tanks, who are able to assist with all your water storage needs.
We ensure that our dealers are of the best quality, as we understand that a water tank is only as good as the person who builds it.
