Smithton Water Tanks

Smithton is a town on the far north-west coast of Tasmania. It lies on the Bass Highway, 85 km north-west of Burnie.  In 1905 Smithton was declared a town and the Mowbray swamp was drained for dairy pasture.

Pioneer Water Tanks have been a leading Smithton water tank supplier and manufacturer for more than thirty years.

Pioneer Water Tank owners in Smithton rest easy in the knowledge they have the support of Australia's primary big tank manufacturer.

Tasmania is often seen from the outside as a rainy green sanctuary all over, however, residents know better, and have their water supply needs in mind.

Water Tanks to Suit Every Need

Bushfire Protection in the Australian Summer

Bushfire preparation

Thanks to prevalent green drought, much of Tasmania is prone to wildfires, thanks to dry soil and weak vegetation, despite the verdant and lush appearance of much of the state.

An important way to prepare for the drier summer months is to make sure that you not only have a bushfire action plan, but also that you have adequate water storage to help you and emergency services protect against the threat of wildfires.

Pioneer Water Tanks offers the option of a fire reserve in your tank, to ensure it can be used for both household water storage and fire protection.

Outperforming all comers in bushfire conditions

A Pioneer Water Tank performed better than the competition in bushfire simulation when testing was performed by the Bushfire and National Hazards CRC in collaboration with the CSIRO.

All other tanks tested either melted or split, causing them to lose valuable water, however the Pioneer Water Tank continued to hold water after being exposed to the full 30 minute fire front, which could prove critical to fire fighting efforts.

While a water tank will still prove adequate for watering backyards or lawns, if it has been subjected to fire, it is highly recommended that you get the tank water tested as soon as possible to ensure that it is still safe for household use.

An Ongoing Battle with the Elements

The Smithton climate

Smithton has an oceanic climate, with January and February's rainfall data bordering a Mediterranean climate.

Smithton averages a yearly total of 913mm of rainfall, with the majority of this falling in the winter months.

The economy of Smithton is agriculture based, consisting primarily of dairy and beef farming. Other major industries that contribute to the local economy are fishing, aquaculture, crop farming, timber plantations and tourism.

Rainwater run-off and flooding

In areas across Australia, especially rural and regional areas effected by drought, rainfall is usually a very welcomed sight, and Tasmania is no outlier in this fact.

However; stormwater run off caused by heavy rainfall, especially in areas with roads and footpaths, can trigger wide-spread flooding and damage by water that can't escape into the ecosystem.

If 100mm of rain fell on Smithton in just 24 hours, in order to keep 2 million litres of rainfall from entering stormwater systems, it would require just 100 homes fitted with rainwater tanks and appropriate guttering.

The Pioneer Water Tanks Difference

Aqualiner Fresh® antimicrobial water tank liner

A Pioneer Water Tanks exclusive, the Aqualiner Fresh ® water tank liner is the only antimicrobial water tank liner on the market, proven to prevent the growth of algae and bacteria in your water tank.

The Aqualiner Fresh ® utilises Sanitized ® technology, with the antibacterial properties of silver, interwoven into the water tank liner.

The most technologically advanced, cleanest and toughest liner available on the market, this is an industry leading product, made up of five distinct layers to protect and store your water.

Pioneer V-Lock® tank wall profile

Designed for durability and for the sole purpose of water storage, the Pioneer V-Lock ® tank wall profile is also a Pioneer Water Tanks exclusive.

This V-Lock panel profile is designed not only for strength and durability of the tank wall itself by engineering the sheets to the ideal thickness for each panel, but also to protect the tank liner, preventing stretching and wear as the tank fills and empties.

Don't just take our word for it, the design is so sound, it won an Australian Design Award for its strength and visual appeal.
