Sorell Water Tanks

Sorell is a town north-east of Hobart, located on the Tasman Highway at the junction with the Arthur Highway. Sorell is one of Tasmania's oldest towns, being first settled in 1808 as a small farming community and becoming an official township in 1821.

Pioneer Water Tanks have been a premier Sorell water tank supplier and manufacturer for more than 30 years.

The backing and history of Australia's leading big tank company, means that customers in Sorell can be satisfied with their water storage solutions.

Tasmania is often seen from the outside as a rainy green island all over, however, locals know better, and have their water supply requirements in mind.

Water Tanks to Suit Every Need

Bushfire Protection in the Australian Summer

Bushfire preparation

Despite being a beautiful and green part of the country, many parts of Tasmania are struck by green drought, which means in the hot, dry summer months, plant life is dry and vulnerable to wildfires.

An important way to prepare for the drier summer months is to ensure that you not only have a bushfire action plan, but also that you have appropriate water storage to help you and emergency services protect against the threat of wild fires.

A steel water tank can be used as both fire protection and water storage for the home, and Pioneer also offers a fire reserve option for your water tank if needed.

Outperforming all comers in bushfire conditions

A Pioneer Water Tank performed better than the competition in bushfire simulation when testing was done by the Bushfire and National Hazards CRC in partnership with the CSIRO.

After thirty minutes of submersion in flame, the Pioneer Water Tank continued to hold water, a vital feature for firefighting efforts, while the other tanks tested either melted or cracked, causing their water to be partially or fully lost.

If your water tank has been exposed to fire, it is essential to ensure that you get your water tested as soon as possible to make sure that it is safe for food preparation or drinking. The water would, however, still be suited for purposes such as watering gardens or lawns.

An Ongoing Battle with the Elements

The Sorell climate

Sorell has a mild temperate oceanic climate, with mild to warm summers, cool and moist winters.

Sorell and the surrounding area has an average annual rainfall of 490.6mm, with the majority of this rainfall in late spring and early summer.

Despite low rainfall, thanks to the rich soil in the area, Sorell was founded as a small farming community and maintains a strong farming presence to this day.

Rainwater run-off and flooding

Rain is welcome in rural areas all across Australia, especially those enduring drought conditions, and Tasmania is certainly no different.

However; stormwater run off caused by heavy rainfall, particularly in areas with roads and footpaths, can trigger wide-spread flooding and damage by water that can't escape into the ecosystem.

If 100mm of rain fell on Sorell in just 24 hours, in order to keep 2 million litres of rainfall from entering stormwater systems, it would require just 100 homes fitted with rainwater tanks and appropriate guttering.

The Pioneer Water Tanks Difference

Aqualiner Fresh® antimicrobial water tank liner

The Aqualiner Fresh ® water tank liner is a Pioneer Water Tanks exclusive, the one and only antimicrobial tank liner available on the market today, and is proven to prevent the growth of algae and bacteria in your water tank.

Utilising Sanitized ® technology, the Aqualiner Fresh ® water tank liner has the antibacterial properties of silver woven into the tank liner.

This industry leading water tank liner is comprised of five layers that make up the strongest, cleanest and most scientifically advanced water tank liner on the market.

Pioneer V-Lock® tank wall profile

Designed for durability and for the sole purpose of water storage, the Pioneer V-Lock ® tank wall profile is also a Pioneer Water Tanks exclusive.

The V-Lock profile is designed both for strength and to protect the tank liner, by preventing stretching and wear, and the sheets are engineered to the ideal thickness for each panel, meaning we put the steel where it's needed most.

The design was deemed so good, in terms of structural integrity and aesthetic appeal, it won an Australian Design Award.
