Wynyard Water Tanks
Wynyard is a rural town on the north-west coast of Tasmania, about 17 kilometres west of Burnie. The town is a regional hub servicing the surrounding rural areas, the adjacent Burnie Wynyard Airport provides commercial flights to Melbourne and other districts.
For over thirty years, Pioneer Water Tanks have been a leading Wynyard water tank manufacturer and distributor.
Pioneer Water Tank owners in Wynyard rest easy in the knowledge they have the support of Australia's number one big tank supplier.
Although much of the mainland hold the belief that Tasmania is a verdant land of plentiful rains, people in Tasmania know better, and are mindful of their water storage needs.

Bushfire Protection in the Australian Summer
Bushfire preparation
Despite being a stunning and green part of the country, many parts of Tasmania are plagued by green drought, which means in the hot, dry summer months, plant life is dry and prone to wildfires.
In addition to having a bushfire action plan, an important way to prepare for the dry summer months is to ensure that you have sufficient water storage to help protect you from the threat of fire, and a Pioneer Water Tank helps deliver that protection.
A steel water tank can be used as both fire protection and water storage for the home, and Pioneer also offers a fire reserve option for your water tank if needed.
Outperforming all comers in bushfire conditions
A Pioneer Water Tank performed better than the competition in bushfire simulation when testing was performed by the Bushfire and National Hazards CRC in partnership with the CSIRO.
Importantly, unlike the other tanks-- which either melted or split - the Pioneer Water Tank continued to hold water even after a fire front, which could prove critical to firefighting efforts.
After a fire front has gone by, the water in your tank can still be used for non-consumptive purposes, like watering your gardens, however, it is highly recommended to get your water tested as soon as possible to make sure your water is safe before using it for food preparation or drinking.
An Ongoing Battle with the Elements
The Wynyard climate
Wynyard is home to an oceanic climate, with long warm summer days, and cool short winter days. The summers rarely breach 30 degrees, and see mostly sunshine.
The average annual rainfall in Wynyard is 975.4mm, with the majority of this falling in the winter months.
Due to its coastal location, and abundant forest, Wynyard's primary industry was timber and shipping, before the growth of the city of Burnie.
Rainwater run-off and flooding
In areas across Australia, especially rural and regional areas effected by drought, rainfall is usually a very welcomed sight, and Tasmania is no outlier in this fact.
However; stormwater run off caused by heavy rainfall, particularly in areas with roads and footpaths, can lead to wide-spread flooding and damage by water that can't escape into the ecosystem.
If 100mm of rain fell on Wynyard in just 24 hours, in order to prevent 2 million litres of rainfall from entering stormwater systems, it would require just 100 homes armed with rainwater tanks and appropriate guttering.
The Pioneer Water Tanks Difference
Aqualiner Fresh® antimicrobial water tank liner
A Pioneer Water Tanks exclusive, the Aqualiner Fresh ® water tank liner is the only antimicrobial water tank liner on the market, proven to prevent the growth of algae and bacteria in your water tank.
The Aqualiner Fresh ® utilises Sanitized ® technology, with the antibacterial properties of silver, interwoven into the water tank liner.
The most scientifically advanced, cleanest and toughest liner available on the market, this is an industry leading product, comprised of five distinct layers to protect and store your water.
Pioneer V-Lock® tank wall profile
The Pioneer V-Lock ® tank wall profile has been engineered for durability, and designed with the sole purpose of water storage in mind.
The V-Lock wall profile is designed to put the steel where it is needed most, for the optimal strength and support, in addition to protecting the tank liner, not just from external debris, but also against stretching or warping from the tank filling and emptying.
The design was deemed so good, in terms of structural integrity and aesthetic appeal, it won an Australian Design Award.
Australian made water tanks - Tasmanian local service
Pioneer Water Tanks has the ability to provide truly local service to all Australians, regardless of where they are located, thanks to the Pioneer Dealer Direct Network, comprised of more than 50 experienced water tank dealers.
In Tasmania, we are proud to be partnered with Statewide Tanks, who are able to assist with all your water storage demands.
It is crucial that our water tank dealers are specialists in water tank construction, as a water tank is only as good as the person who builds it.
Wynyard Local Knowledge
Wynyard fun fact
Three ex-convict Alexander brothers established a settlement, Alexandria, on the west, or Table Cape, side of the Inglis River in the 1850s. They bought large areas of farmland on Table Cape and built several small ships for produce and timber trading.
Shortly afterwards, Wynyard town, on the east side of the river, was laid out, but lagged well behind Alexandria which had a church and several shops including a blacksmith and general store. After the Inglis River was bridged in 1861, Alexandria began to fade and Wynyard, with better wharfing, became the district's centre of commerce.
